Miss Rodeo Canada 2002

November 9, 2001 was a special day for the now 22-year old Shereen Ziegler. As the former Wainwright Stampede Queen, this blonde haired, green-eyed beauty was crowned Miss Rodeo Canada 2002 in front of more than 16,000 fans at Canadian Finals Rodeo. It was "a dream come true" she remembers with excitement thinking back to that special day.

Raised on a mixed farm in Vegreville, Shereen portrayed a passion for animals at a young age. She was an executive member of 4-H for eight years, which earned her experience in public speaking, horsemanship, showmanship, grooming and judging. Shereen barrel raced in various associations and took part in the Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association while attending Olds College, winning the CIRA pole bending and barrel racing runner-up title in 2000. Shereen's growing passion and dedication to horses, and her role as an ambassador to the sport of rodeo, makes her desire to compete for national titles in barrel racing a natural progression.

As the first lady of professional rodeo, Shereen has been extremely busy this past year. The winter months of her reign found Shereen investing her time with the Opening Gaits Therapeutic Riding Association, the Calgary Stampede Board of Education Program and the Alberta Cattle Commission Classroom Agricultural Program. She spent weeks in the classroom giving presentations on agriculture, rodeo and ranching, and assisting as a teacher's aide while wearing the national rodeo crown.

She traveled extensively throughout North America spreading the word about the sport of professional rodeo. Each destination provided unique and special experiences she will cherish for a lifetime.

Education is a topic that Shereen takes very seriously. She graduated from Olds College with an Agricultural Productions diploma majoring in Business Enterprise Management and went on to attend Delmar College of Hair Design in Calgary. Her future plans include obtaining her Bachelor of Science at the University of Lethbridge. There is no doubt that the knowledge gained during her reign will be carried with her into the future.

Shereen continues to wear her Canadian crown proudly as her Miss Rodeo Canada 2002 reign comes to an end. She feels extremely blessed to have been afforded the opportunity to represent the sport of rodeo and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. "Becoming Miss Rodeo Canada 2002 has been the utmost rewarding and beneficial time as my life is forever richer for this experience."
