Tara Slade
Miss Rodeo Canada Princess 2009

November 4th 2008 in the Westin Hotel at the 1st Annual Miss Rodeo Canada Luncheon, Tara Slade was crowned Miss Rodeo Canada Princess 2009. The former Miss Rodeo Stavely performed very well in the week long competition, capturing the position of first runner up to Miss Rodeo Canada 2009, Miss Aaron Courchesne. Tara is the first Miss Rodeo Stavely to compete in the Miss Rodeo Canada competition.

This 18 year old ranch raised cowgirl resides in Nanton, Alberta but also enjoys spending time in the Touchwood Hills of Saskatchewan at her parent’s ranch. Tara is currently enrolled in the Nursing Education of Southwestern Alberta program at the Lethbridge College/University of Lethbridge and is entering her second year in the fall of 2009. She has hopes of becoming an emergency room or labour and delivery nurse.

Representing rodeo associations in the position of rodeo royalty is not a new experience for Tara. Prior to holding the title of Miss Rodeo Stavely, Tara was the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Queen for two consecutive years, competing both years in the National High School Rodeo Queen Competition; placing 11th in 2007.

Besides Tara’s love of rodeo she also enjoys listening and singing country music, performing musical theatre, working on the ranch, reading a good book, working with her horses and spending time with her family and friends.

Tara is the eldest daughter of Lon and Kathy Slade, and the sister to 2 younger sisters; Laramie (15) and Calonna (12). “My family has been such an amazing influence in my life; I could not have been more blessed. My parents are the most amazing people I know! Both hard working and dedicated to one another and their family. They have always done everything in their power to ensure I had the best opportunities and could pursue all of my dreams. My parents have taught me the importance of hard work, dedication, morals, honesty, and determination; values I will always carry with me on the trail of life. My sisters are two of my closest friends, and I am so very proud of their accomplishments. Together we make quite the trio, always managing to keep Mom and Dad on their toes!”

Tara believes that the title of Miss Rodeo Canada Princess 2009 is an amazing opportunity and feels honoured and blessed to hold this position. She believes this experience will open doors into the future and foster opportunities for many years to come. “By holding this position I want to not only be able to further my own life, but further the lives of others. Reaching your dreams is an amazing feeling! If I have the ability to help others achieve their dreams to, well that would be the most rewarding to me.”

Diary

Highlight(s):

My experiences as Miss Rodeo Canada Princess will last a lifetime. Favorite memories of mine range from the smallest rodeos, where I finally learned what a Spolumbo was, to the largest rodeos. Attending the Ponoka Stampede was among the top of my highlights, as I had the opportunity to work with a fantastic committee, a wide range of talented competitors, and enthusiastic fans at one of Canada's top rodeos. I was proud to carry our Canadian Flag while promoting professional rodeo across Canada - and wish all the best to future Miss Rodeo Canada, and Miss Rodeo Canada Princess title holders.

Where are you now?

I am currently enrolled in my third year of nursing at the University of Lethbridge, where I will graduate in 2012 and begin my career as a Registered Nurse. Travel with humanitarian aid projects, practicing as a Registered Nurse, and rodeo are all in my future - it is looking bright.
