Wendi Lund (Paget)
Miss Rodeo Canada 1994

Twenty-year-old Wendi Lund from Duchess, Alberta, was excited to receive the title of Miss Rodeo Canada 1994 at the 20th Anniversary Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, AB, on November 12, 1993.

Wendi's interest in horses arose when she was quite young as she competed in Little Britches Rodeos and a gymkhana club for many years. As she grew older, she became very active in her local 4-H Club and participated in events from western pleasure to team cattle penning. Through her many years of 4-H she felt gained confidence in herself, her horsemanship skills and the knowledge to teach others.

4-H also gave her the opportunity to represent fine organizations and the sport of rodeo as they supported her through her reign as Jenner Rodeo Queen in 1990, Medicine Hat Stampede Queen 1992-93 and Miss Rodeo Canada 1994. "This past year has taught me a lot about myself and enabled me to experience things I would not have been able to, had I not reigned the year as Miss Rodeo Canada," reflects Wendi.

"Through these experiences, I have been fortunate enough to receive job opportunities in fields such as broadcasting and advertising." As for Wendi's future goals, she sees herself continuing to contribute to the community she lives in by volunteering time and skills. She also plans to maintain a link with the agricultural way of life and continue to be competitive with horses. The skilled equestrian and public speaker feels that growing up in a small community, and being active in 4-H, has truly given her a sense of belonging and the ability to discover her potential.

Wendi saw the 1994 rodeo season as an excellent opportunity to better Canada's western heritage as she travelled down the rodeo way of life, promoting and representing one of the finest Canadian sports and its many sponsors. "I have truly enjoyed getting to know the athletes, organizers and sponsors of professional rodeo, and the good times we shared will always be cherished as some of my fondest memories," Wendi says. "One thing I learned was, the only way to truly understand "the cowboy way" is to experience the arena of life for yourself."
