Sheona became involved in rodeo in 1985 when working for Sprung Group of Companies who supplied the coats for the Tour Rodeos in Canada. In 1987 she went to work for the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede as a payroll administrator, that same year she met 4-time Canadian Champion Tie-Down Roper "Smokin’" Joe Lucas and in 1991 they were married.

2015 & an avid team roper and Kyle, also a team roper and following in his father's footsteps already as a 2-time Canadian Finals Rodeo Qualifier in the Tie- Down Roping.

Sheona was involved with the Ladies of Canadian Professional Rodeo Fashion Show, raising money for the Canadian Cowboy's Benevolent Fund, from 1990 until 2006 when Joe retired from professional rodeo.

As a former “Queen Mother” Sheona feels she can add a different view to the organization and knows that this program and the reigning queen is vital to the sport of rodeo. With a supportive group behind her, she can become a great ambassador with a strong voice and presence to promote rodeo and our country.

Nicole was born in Wainwright to a ranching family.  She learned to ride almost as soon as she could walk.  She grew up splitting her time between Red Deer, Alberta and Wainwright, Alberta.

She moved to Edmonton to attend Grant MacEwan where she obtained her Travel Consulting diploma. She currently works as a project coordinator for an electrical distributor.  As a project coordinator she has honed her time management, multi-tasking and customer service skills. 

She has been a lifetime supporter of rodeo and the farm lifestyle. Nicole is passionate about travelling to new places and meeting new people. She and her husband Patrick enjoy attending local sporting events and taking their dog out to the local dog park.


Ken Heintz

Ken Heintz graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws. He got his start with Lavalee Buchanan, quickly moving up to become a partner with Lavalee, Rackel and Heintz, and currently a partner of Venture Law Group LLP.

Ken has a general practice with an emphasis on Civil Litigation. He has conducted cases on behalf of clients before various Administrative Tribunals in the Province of Alberta as well as the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Ken deals regularly with corporate commercial, contract, real estate, insurance and agricultural law matters as well as personal injury and fatal accident claims. He has a ranching background and he represents many participants and stakeholders in the cattle industry in Alberta.

Stephanie Mitty graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce and then pursued her Chartered Accountant Designation with MNP LLP. She has continued her career with MNP where she enjoys various areas of corporate accounting and tax as well as personal tax.

Stephanie grew up on horseback, having competed in show-jumping for most of her adolescence and has always been an avid fan of rodeo. She now resides with her two horses west of Stony Plain.

Nicole Templeton is an equine portrait and country wedding photographer located in Vermilion, Alberta.  Nicole holds her Craftsman Photographer with the Master Photographers International. As well as being a photographer she is also the Office Manager for the Vermilion Agricultural Society, one of Western Canada's oldest and largest traditional agricultural fairs.

Nicole started riding at the age of 10, and has pursued her love for Dressage through her lifetime. After some time managing a Pure Spanish Horse breeding facility where she rode under the instruction of the head trainer to the King of Spain’s personal riding stable, Nicole took time to raise her family.

She can often be found with two of her three children at various horse shows or on their farm where they raise Babydoll Sheep.

Being part of an artistic family, Shawna Whiteside Erickson enjoyed growing up west of Didsbury Alberta on a dairy farm. From an early age, Shawna experimented in many artistic endeavors, from music and graphic design, to cake decorating and finally settled on silversmithing.   She has owned Sweet Iron Silver for the past 16 years, and has created western jewelry and buckles that have gone all over the world.

Shawna is excited to be a part of the Miss Rodeo Canada committee.  She has extensive administrative experience and has also helped some rodeo queen contestants in the past in their endeavors, as well as competing herself in earlier years.

Raised on a farm near Didsbury, Shawna still makes her home in the country, where she practices both her craft as a silversmith and raises quarter horses along with her husband. Living a western rural lifestyle has influenced Shawna’s work. She takes pride in creating distinctive family heirlooms and championship awards that will be treasured for years to come.


Sharon Koke

Sharon Koke started riding at the age of 6 when her parents surprised her with a horse, now over many years has competed in gymkhana and barrel racing. She was a contestant in the Miss Rodeo Canada Pageant over 20 years ago, and so decided to get involved again and has been volunteering with the program for about 9 years.

Sharon worked with the Provincial Government in Oil & Gas, then after becoming a Systems Analyst, worked at the Legislature Building for about 10 years, training MLA staff on computers and traveling to over 80 constituency offices providing computer training. Then for the past few years, she worked as an Interior Decorator. Currently enjoying the country life living on an acreage with her husband Jerry and two kids Brandon and Kendra, and of course her horses.

Tracy is a former flight attendant with Wardair, first class airline that traveled the world. Then designer of SweetWater Creations (formerly SweetGrass) which have been used on many past Miss Rodeo Canada autograph sheets, a ladies western wear line, distributed throughout North America.

Currently working at CDL Carpet and Floor Centre with custom home builders doing full home selections. Co-Founder of the La Due Ladies Lunch, annual fundraiser held at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel during Calgary Stampede, funds raised go towards a Scholarship program supporting young women with cowgirl spirit. Past recipients have been Miss Rodeo Canada, OH Ranch Foundation and High River Rowan Shelter.

Kaylie Franklin was born in Southern Alberta. Although her parents where not ranchers, her fond memories of her grandad’s cowboy hat and Dan Post boots at the front door is something that she will never forget. Now she lives just north of Lloydminster, Alberta on their family farm. Running black angus, horse, two donkeys, two goats and a few ducks. She has fully immersed herself into the western lifestyle. With a son that loves tractors and a daughter that is horse crazy her future will be full of dusty fields and arena grounds. At the age of 20, Kaylie started her own event planning company and has had the opportunity to work with corporate and bridal clients all over Alberta and British Columbia. She currently contracts her event coordinating services to local venues in the area, along with planning trade shows and special events. Most recently she has pursued her love for photography. Her goal is to capture and keep alive the real western way of life.

Samantha Stokes

Born and raised on a cattle farm just 30 minutes north of High Prairie, twenty-one year old Samantha Stokes has been involved with the western way of life for as long as she can remember. Samantha was an active member of 4h growing up, participating in projects such as horse, steer, heifer, market lamb and ewe. A strong passion for working with children as well as for the sport of rodeo is what drove her to accomplish 3 professional rodeo queen titles by just 19 years of age. Beginning with the High Prairie rodeo queen title in 2012, Miss Grande Prairie Stompede in 2014 and Miss Rodeo Canada in 2016, Samantha felt so incredibly blessed to be taken on the journey of a lifetime and dedicate her teenage years to being a strong role model for youth. Now, Samantha resides in northern Alberta as she works to complete her Bachelor of Education degree and devotes her spare time to giving back to the organizations who have inspired her to become the best version of herself, such as the High Prairie Elks Pro Rodeo, Grande Prairie Stompede,  and the Miss Rodeo Canada board and Alumni. Samantha is strongly motivated to continuing instilling strong morals and values in to children who cross her path on both the rodeo trail and her classroom for many years to come.

Nicole Briggs was born and raised on a farm in Gibbons, Alberta.  Nicole graduated from Sturgeon Composite High School in 2010.  She is currently attending the University of Alberta completing a BSc in Animal Health with a major in Food Animals.  She plans on obtaining a degree in Veterinary Medicine in hopes of pursuing a career in Equine Health specializing in lameness and unsoundness.

Her love for the sport of rodeo has led her to take on many roles.  Nicole is active in the rodeo and ranching world and held the title of Alberta High School Queen  in 2008, Miss Rodeo Airdrie in 2012 and Miss Rodeo Canada in 2014.

She currently is the Vice-President of the Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and received their prestigious Cowgirl of the Year award in 2013.  She volunteers for the Gibbons 4-H Light Horse Club, participates in horse shows, the local gymkhana club, team ropes and barrel races in various circuits.

Pat has been riding horses since before she could walk and rode steers in the rodeo when she was only six years old! Pat showed horses in the AQHA circuit for twenty years. She was also a Board Member for eight years, and held the President position of the amateur board and public relations committees. She has also worked on the senior board publicly as well as the sponsorship committee.

Pat Buckler worked alongside her husband, Buzz, operating a Ford dealership for twenty years. After giving up the Ford business, they moved to Ladner, British Columbia where they operated a marina service business. After retirement, Pat's husband passed away and she moved back to Alberta to be with her family.

Pat has won numerous awards including being named citizen of the year in Mayerthorpe. She was also a recipient of the Andy Rose Memorial award in recognition of her dedication, perseverance and contribution of sportsmanship throughout the Alberta horse industry. She recently was awarded the "Canadian Cowgirl Achievement Award" by the Miss Rodeo Canada Organization in November 2014.

Tom Chrisp was born in Vermilion, Alberta on a farm/ranch.  He had cattle, horses and a lot of pets!  Tom attended school in Vermilion and upon completion of Grade 12 began working in the oilfield at various locations.  He currently is working with Apache Canada. 

Tom lost his wife in 2005, and has two step-sons.  He is an avid rodeo enthusiast, and spends a majority of his time enjoying rodeos when he is not working!  Tom can proudly boast his niece, Shereen Ziegler, was Miss Rodeo Canada 2002!  His love of rodeo and his niece’s involvement with the Miss Rodeo Canada program lead Tom to become associated with the Miss Rodeo Canada Board.  He has served as a member since 2012. 


Marlene Leslie

Marlene commenced her tenure with the Provincial Government on December 23, 1985 holding positions with the Public Affairs Bureau AV & Exhibit Services, Employment Standards as well as with the Labour Relations Board in Calgary prior to returning to Edmonton when she became the Executive Assistant to the Chair in May 2000.
Marlene is an avid rodeo fan and was mentor for Miss Rodeo Canada 2014, Nicole Briggs. She looks forward to helping with the Miss Rodeo Canada program, as well as learning as much as she can about the western heritage lifestyle!

Patrica Tiffen, Member at Large

Patricia Tiffen completed her bachelor of Laws at the University of Alberta in 2000.  During her final year, she was selected to compete on behalf of the University in the prestigious Jessup International Moot Competition, against teams from law schools across the country.  Through these experiences Patricia recognized the value of taking advantage of opportunities to increase her knowledge of the law and its application.  She has subsequently obtained certificates in Interpersonal Conflict Resolution, Interest-based Negotiation and Facilitative Mediation from the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Alberta.

Patricia has used these skills and experiences throughout her career in both insurance defence and plaintiff’s personal injury litigation, and is developing a mediation practice.  The Provincial Court has chosen her to be on their mediation roster and employs her skills in a large variety of disputes.

Patricia manages a general litigation practice with membership in both the Alberta and Nortwest Territory bars.  

She enjoys coaching Special Olympics basketball and volunteering with MRC and at Northlands.  


Dale Leschuitta, Member at Large

Dale Leschuitta attended Selkirk College and finished a 2-year program.  He became a dispatcher at Staron Flight in Vancouver.  This led up to his becoming a flight instructor, and then a bush pilot.  He was a a Twin Otter pilot with Transair Midwest out of Winnipeg and then joined Pacific Western Airlines on the C-130 Hercules and flew all over the world.  Dale flew in Angola which was in the middle of war.  He once received a job offer in South Africa on a Lear jet which looking back, he wished he had taken the offer as there is something magic about South Africa.

Dale finished up with the airlines as a Captain on a Boeing 767 for Air Canada.  During this time, he  served as Chairman of the Association Rodeo Committees, USA.  Dale also attended the Canadian Finals as Rodeo Committee Commissioner and then became the President of Canadian Pro Rodeo Canada.

Pauline Briggs lives on a ranch north of Edmonton in Gibbons, Alberta with her husband Alan and their two children, Nicole and Stephen. She was a 4-H Leader for the Gibbons 4-H Light Horse club for ten years and participated in the Triple R Gymkhana club for five years. Pauline was the President of the gymkhana club in 2011 and 2012 and won the hi-point award in 2012. Pauline and her husband, Al, were nominated to the 4-H Sturgeon County Wall of Fame in November of 2014. Pauline retired as President of the Miss Rodeo Canada organization in Janaury of 2017, but remains as a volunteer as the webmaster.

Pauline currently works for the Alberta Labour Relations Board as the Board's legal assistant, publications officer, and webmaster.

You can find Pauline at local rodeos and team roping jackpots cheering on the family or running the chutes at home! Pauline's daughter Nicole was Miss Rodeo Canada 2014 and Pauline has rodeo queen experience as she coached and attended the events as Nicole competed throughout the Alberta High School, National High School, Pro-Rodeo and Miss Rodeo Canada pageants.
